Objective To explore the experiences of father′s role in pediatric palliative care for children with cancer, and to provide a reference for targeted caregiver support. Methods A descriptive qualitative study was conducted.Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 14 fathers of children with cancer.Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results Five themes and 14 sub-themes were identified:complex emotional reactions, role reconstruction, multiple dilemmas, support seeking and self-adjustment, and cognitive transformation and meaning reconstruction. Conclusion The experience of father′s role in pediatric palliative care is complex, with multiple dilemmas and support needs.Healthcare providers should pay attention to the unique caregiving experiences and psychological needs of this group, promote the development of a service system that incorporates gender-sensitive care, and thereby enhance the quality of palliative care for the entire family.
