Abstract:Objective To explore symptom clusters in lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and to construct a symptom network to identify core symptoms and bridge symptoms, thereby providing references for developing precise and efficient symptom management strategies. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 600 lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy using the M.D.Anderson Symptom Inventory-Lung Cancer Module.Exploratory factor analysis was performed to extract symptom clusters, and the R software was used to construct the symptom network and analyze centrality indices. Results Five symptom clusters were extracted: the neuro-gastrointestinal toxicity symptom cluster, the emotional distress symptom cluster, the wasting symptom cluster, the central hypersomnia-fatigue symptom cluster, and the respiratory symptom cluster, accounting for 60.031% of the total variance. In the symptom network, sadness had the highest expected influence (EI=1.16), and nausea had the highest bridge strength (rbs=3.24). Conclusion Lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy expe-rienced multiple concurrent symptoms.Sadness emerged as the central symptom and nausea as the bridge symptom.Nurses may develop targeted interventions based on the central and bridge symptoms to enhance the overall efficiency of symptom management.
