Abstract:Objective To investigate the level and factors associated with end-of-life health literacy among community-dwelling older adults, and to provide a reference for future end-of-life health education programs. Methods A convenience sample of 430 older adults from five urban communities in Luzhou was surveyed using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Subjective End-of-Life Health Literacy Scale, the Elderly Death Attitude Scale, the Perceived Enactment of Autonomy Scale, the Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Family APGAR Index.Multiple linear regression was used to identify factors influencing end-of-life health lite-racy. Results The mean end-of-life health literacy score was (37.00±8.11).Self-rated health status, previous experience in medical decision-making, number of children, educational level, natural acceptance and escape-oriented acceptance in death attitudes, perceived autonomy, family function, and perceived social support were factors influencing end-of-life health literacy (all P<0.05). Conclusion End-of-life health literacy among community-dwelling older adults needs to be enhanced.Community healthcare provi-ders should promote older adults′ autonomy, cultivate positive attitudes toward death, and strengthen family function and social support to improve their end-of-life health literacy.
