Abstract:Objective To translate the Moral Neutralization Scale-Nurse Version (MNS-NV) into Chinese, and examine its reliability and validity in obstetric nurses, so as to provide a tool assessing nursing ethics and screening nurses′ moral neutralization beha-viors. Methods Following the Brislin translation-back-translation model, translation and cultural adaptation of the MNS-NV were completed; then 12 nursing experts were invited to evaluate its content validity; finally, 332 obstetric nurses from 10 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province were recruited and investigated to test its reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version MNS-NV consisted of 11 items, and three common factors were extracted:negative cognitive restructuring, normalization of bullying, and rationalization of retaliation, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 64.628%.The item-level content validity index (I-CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000, and the average scale-level content validity index (S-CVI/Ave) was 0.951.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit:χ2/df=2.732, NFI=0.918, IFI=0.923, CFI=0.906, TLI=0.925, RMSEA=0.075.The Cronbach′s αcoefficient of the scale was 0.875, the split-half reliability was 0.817, and the test-retest reliability was 0.852. Conclusion The Chinese version of MNS-NV has satisfactory reliability and validity, which can be used to evaluate the level of moral neutralization among Chinese nurses and assess the effectiveness of ethics training.
