Abstract:Objective To translate the Appreciation at Work Scale (AAWS) into Chinese and test its reliability and validity among nurses. Methods Following the modified Brislin translation model, the English version of the AAWS was translated and culturally adapted to form a Chinese version.A convenience sample of 420 clinical nurses was investigated to test its reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version of the AAWS consisted of three dimensions, namely appreciation from supervisors, appreciation from colleagues, and appreciation from patients, with a total of 15 items. The item-level content validity index (I-CVI) ranged from 0.900 to 1.000, the scale-level content validity index/universal agreement (S-CVI/UA) was 0.867, and the scale-level content validity index/average (S-CVI/Ave) was 0.987.Exploratory factor analysis extracted three common factors, with a cumulative va-riance contribution rate of 61.727%.Confirmatory factor analysis revealed χ2/df=1.598, RMSEA=0.054, CFI=0.975, TLI=0.970, and IFI=0.975.The Cronbach′s α coefficient of the scale was 0.904, which were 0.887, 0.874, and 0.880 for the three subscales. The split-half reliability coefficient of the scale was 0.942, which were 0.894, 0.891, and 0.885 for the subscales. The test-retest reliability coefficient of the scale was 0.775, which were 0.758, 0.749, and 0.746 for the subscales. Conclusion The Chinese version of the AAWS demonstrates good reliability and validity, and it can serve as an effective tool for assessing the level of workplace appreciation perceived by clinical nurses.
